The SM5516 eMarker IC enables the smallest, simplest and most economical design in the USB cable market.
SEOUL-PANKYO, South Korea-- Silicon Mitus, an advanced specialist in PMIC technology, introduced the eMarker for USB Type-C cable, which attains the smallest device size at a mere 1.1 mm x 1.5 mm package.
On top of the successful integration of an ISO diode with the RA resistor and active switch (components usually found outside the device) in a small footprint, what makes the SM5516 truly stand out is that the device supports the latest USB Power Delivery 3.0 standard. This allows for a simpler design of the latest USB Type-C compliant cable combined with a significant reduction in manufacturing costs.
The SM5516 features a wide VDD operation range of 2.7 V to 5.5 V, and the availability of embedded Multi-Time Programmable (MTP) memory brings flexibility to program Vendor Information Data (VID). The SM5516 is a recent addition to the family of Silicon Mitus USB Type-C products already shipping in volumes, affirming the company as a key player in the new USB standard.
“With the addition of the SM5516 to our USB Type-C product portfolio, Silicon Mitus brings further integration and cost-efficiency to USB Type-C cable manufacturers,” said Dr. Youm Huh, CEO. “This will ultimately benefit consumers who will find end products to be far less complex, far less expensive but more powerful than earlier USB technologies. The launch of the SM5516 expresses our long-term plans to develop state-of-the-art devices to meet the evolving standards of the USB marketplace.”
